Belgium's religious orders have a strong connection to the history of its beer. Many convents and monasteries brewed their own beer for their members to drink. These beers were sometimes distributed to the neighborhood and were frequently of excellent quality. Over time, Belgian beer culture grew ingrained in the nation's identity and transcended the boundaries of religious organizations.
